The Glasgow Boys at Kirkcudbright
Following the staggering success of the ‘Glasgow Girls’ exhibition last year, which attracted over 30,000 visits, the Kirkcudbright 2000 group, with support from Dumfries and Galloway Council, are currently arranging the ‘Glasgow Boys at Kirkcudbright’ exhibition which will be on display in the Town Hall from 2 July to 29 August. Who were ‘the Boys’? From the 1880s, a group of young artists based in Glasgow, but painting all over Scotland and abroad, became acclaimed internationally for their realist landscape painting. Kirkcudbright and its surroundings was one of their favoured locations and three of the leading members of the group - James Guthrie, George Henry and E A Hornel – painted some of their best work here. It is particularly appropriate therefore that this new exhibition of ‘the Boys’ work should be shown here.
Visitor Admission
Visitor entry has historically been free but donations boxes are prominently displayed with a suggested donation to help pay for future exhibitions. Any remaining monies being used towards Kirkcudbright's Art Gallery Project.
